There are many benefits to leasing versus buying equipment. Every group has its business objectives, financial constraints, and operational goals that should be considered before deciding on the best acquisition method for the equipment. For most companies, leasing equipment offers flexibility, predictability, and lower risk. Equipment leasing is becoming increasingly more popular as businesses are experiencing the advantages and strategic value equipment leasing brings. In fact, according to Dos Mundos Developments, Inc., the global leasing industry has grown over 120% in the past decade, with North America representing over 35% of the total global market share in equipment leased.

Pros: Leasing Equipment

Leasing equipment allows you to use the equipment for a fixed amount of time without the burden of ownership. The advantages of leasing are:

1. Conserve cash flow

2. Hedge against equipment obsolescence, parts inventories and storage

3. Keep strategic flexibility for managing your balance sheet

4. Select your own path with flexible end of lease options or renewals

5. Simplify administration, bookkeeping, millage logs, fuel efficiencies

Pros: Purchase Equipment

1. By owning your equipment, you are entitled to make any modifications to the machine. Owning also means maintenance is your responsibility so you can make sure that issues are resolved ASAP. This means you won’t have to wait for a leasing company to resolve the issue or approve the needed maintenance.

2. Buying can be easier because there are no agreements and contracts you must follow. You decide what type of equipment you want and its yours for use.

3. If you own equipment, you have the ability to sell at the end of it’s use, allowing you to recover some of the cost spent.

4. You have complete control over what type of equipment you get because you aren’t limited to what is available at a leasing company.  If there is a specific model/brand in mind you have the ability to find exactly that.

This is Boom time in Central Texas for many things including the heavy construction business.  Each day brings announcements of new hospitals, schools, highways, bridges, Court Houses and that’s just the public sector.  There are also many new high rises, office towers, shopping centers and residential subdivisions popping out of the ground all across Central Texas.   This activity has brought unprecedented growth and commerce to the area but it has also caused some supply side issues with materials, labor and heavy equipment.   Cranes, dozers, excavators, lifts and loaders are all in short supply.  This is especially true for water trucks and water towers.

With TxDOT’s ever increasing annual budget that brings road way projects requiring on site water in remote areas and with many cities and counties adopting dust abatement type ordinances for both private and public sector projects,  “on site” water has become a thing.  Water trucks and water towers are in short supply and if you need this type equipment that must also satisfy your HUB, WBE or DBE requirements, you may be going down a long, hard path.   Many large equipment providers such as Holt Cat  or Niece Equipment   have waiting lists for both new water truck purchase orders and for water truck rentals.

This demand and the lack of inventory has brought companies from outside the State to our local area to help with the back orders .  This is both good news and bad news.  While the added inventory does help to keep moving projects forward,  it also brings with it administrative problems such as outdated or non-compliant certifications, licenses, equipment and drivers.  These issues can cause big, big problems, delays and lost revenue.   A local,  TxDOT, HUB certified  company has decided to offer a solution.

DLB Industries, a TxDOT HUB certified, woman and minority owned business, has recently rolled out an equipment rental service that offers short and long term rentals or turnkey water delivery services via 2,000 & 4,000 gallon water trucks as well as 12,000 gallon water towers  for heavy projects.  DLB has entered into various agreements with large, national and state wide equipment leasing companies offering water trucks and towers.  They have put the correct drivers, bonding and insurance in place and can get on site water to large projects anywhere in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana with 72 hours notice.  They offer one time, short term and long term arrangements for all job-site, non-potable water.
